He finds fruit
in the beauty
at the top
It’s a long way
He’s diligent
Working with his
“handsâ€
I cannot see
the immediate benefit
Nor do I know
what draws him
or leads him there
But he keeps
moving
staying
the course

1st comment explains what I was thinking.
What was I thinking?
Ancient proverbs talk about observing the ant and how he works (no gender bias implied here). We have a couple peonies out in front of our place. Ants are critical to them and their survival – they’ll never bloom without the ants help in opening them.
There’s an instinct in the ants. I see a bit of a similar purpose built into each of us. Something deep inside drives us. Once we realize that tug or urging, we need the diligence of the ant, because it’s often a long journey. And sometimes we don’t get to see the fruits of our labor until much later (some fruit we never see).
…thanks Mr Mustard, I didn’t know that about Ants. Last year I went round shaking them off my peonies. I could not see any damage to the flowers. Sorry, Ants. And I like the analogy, about not knowing the outcome of our efforts..
emma – the image of you shaking ants off of the flowers made me laugh out loud!
