By the time you read this, I’ll be into about 9 years of being a dad. But only recently did I realize the importance of making the most of the little time I have with my children. The most of my time to create some sort of lasting impact.
I’ve thought about how few memories I actually have of my own dad (whom I love dearly) pouring lasting, relevant wisdom into my life. I’ve thought about the times where my parents said nothing.
I sat down and started thinking about the key things I wanted my kids to know. I started to journal, write songs about those things, and investigate what other dads were saying about those things.
I continue that exploration here. In public, only because there are so many kids who want their dads to be real in their lives. To teach them. To love them. Maybe something here will spur you into a deeper relationship with your kids. I can only hope.
Why trust my point of view? Well, I’m neither a psychologist nor an expert – so, the chances of me saying something actually useful are pretty good.
Bottom line – if what we discuss here works, great! If not, move on to something that does.
BTW, if something here does work, please let me know. Or if you have tips on what you’d like to see discussed. Let me know. Write jp (at) funkyunclemustard (dot) com.
